SEQUEL OF “You are not alone” CAMPAIGN

The objective of the Saudi Celiac Patients’ Support Group is to enlighten the public people on the significance of strict adherence to gluten-free diet for life (def.: GLUTEN (from Latin gluten, "glue") is a protein composite found in wheat and related grains, including barley and rye. Gluten gives elasticity to dough, helping it rise, keep its shape and often gives the final product a chewy texture. According to the latest research, 2 – 3 out of 100 people suffers from Celiac Disease.

The Saudi Celiac Patients’ Support Group in collaboration with the Saudi Gastroenterology Association carry out an Educational Campaign about the Disease nature, process and its management. It was held at the lobby of King Saud University, Medicine College last Thursday, 20 November 2014 (27 Muharram 1436H) from 9:00 – 11:00 am. The Volunteer Medical Students arranged the Venue setting and booths were made available in order to accommodate the queries of our guests.

  1. INFORMATION BOOTH – LCD displays a non-stop PowerPoint presentation of the Definition and Background of the Disease.
  2. DIETITIAN BOOTH – Ms. Lamia gave advice on how to follow a strict gluten-free diet/lifestyle and answered any queries raised.
  • Gluten free products prepared by the Clinical Nutrition Department of King Khalid University Hospital were available, i.e. pizza, muffins and sandwiches
  • Samples of Gluten-free Products from the Company were displayed, i.e. Pasta, Flour, cookies, biscuits.
  1. ADVOCACY BOOTH – to promote awareness: brochures, magazines and pamphlets were distributed.
  2. Survey Forms and questionnaires were distributed in order to evaluate and reflect the awareness of the students and staff in the College.

This event is a continuation of the campaign last year entitled “You are not alone”. Dr. Bader Salem would like to thank everyone who made this event successful and noted that the Saudi Celiac Patients’ Support Group will extend its campaign to Jeddah (will be announced soon) to continuously boost the Public Awareness.

“We are here” Mall Campaign

At the later part of this year, the Saudi Celiac Patients’ Support Group introduces its new Campaign theme entitled: “We are here” in addition to opening of Website Registration. The objectives of the website are as follows:

  1. To raise awareness of the recipients about the disease, its process and management.
  2. To guide patients in compliance to a gluten-free product consumption.
  3. To perceive an estimated number of patients with Celiac Disease in Saudi Arabia and Arab world and to secure a database on the number of registries in the Group.
  4. To assist the recipients/patients in facing difficulties they may be facing while having the Disease.
  5. To accord an easy access for Medical Staff on the information they may need for Research studies.

In addition, the Saudi Celiac Patients’ Support Group conducted Mall campaign for three (3) Consecutive days dated: 04 – 05 Dul Hijjah 1435 (28 – 29 September 2014) in Sahara Mall and 06 Dul Hijjah 1435 (30 September 2014) in Granada Mall. As routine in our Mall Campaign and Awareness activities, booths were made available in order to accommodate the queries of our guests. Pamphlets and brochures were distributed to the attendees and recipients. Orientation for the Website registration were conducted.

The Group, indeed, is thanking everyone who made this event successful, to all the staff in the mall, Medical students, patients and recipients. This event will surely not be successful without your support and assistance. Thank you!
